120 Years of Craftsmanship
Driven by passion, Jules Destrooper, a colonial trader, combined the best of the spices he imported from Africa and the East with the best of nature’s ingredients. That’s how he obtained a very unique flavour for the almond thin, a delicate biscuit that was to please generations of people all over the world. In that way, in 1886, the biscuiterie Jules Destrooper was founded.
Positioning - Characteristics
Jules Destrooper has been marveling far beyond national borders with biscuits that leave even the most discerning connoisseur speechless … and this for over 120 years. The following product characteristics have been working to our advantage:
• authentic and traditional character: we still honour and bake according to original recipes
• unique products (taste, shape, …) using real butter
• skillfully made with the best and finest of ingredients: e.g. almonds from Valence, 1st class cinnamon from Indonesia, genuine Belgian chocolate
• only 100% natural ingredients are used; no artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives.
• excellent quality due to the most stringent ongoing quality controls
• packaging that is both stylish and easy-to-handle
Production Plants
All Jules Destrooper biscuits are still being made in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The company has two production sites: Lo and Ypres. In Lo, where it all began more than 120 years ago, butter crisp and the butter crumble are still the center of attention. All chocolate covered biscuits are made in Ypres. Almond thins, our most successful export product, is the only biscuits made in both facilities.
Worldwide
Pleasure has no boundaries! Jules Destrooper biscuits charm and amaze in all four cardinal directions: from Harrods in London to Saks on Fifth Avenue in New York. From Martinique's best gourmet shop to Taiwan, Puerto Rico and even Australia.
What started in 1886 as a national operation, grew out to be a well accepted export product, active in 16 export markets in 1980, when the third generation of the Destrooper family, currenlty running the company, took over. Today, 28 years later, and thanks to a special focus on export, we count an active presence in 75 countries. Most recent additions are: Bulgaria, Rumania, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Laos and Qatar.
