Since its inception in 1990, Botswana Public Officers’ Medical Aid Scheme (BPOMAS) unwavering dedication to facilitating and improving the lives of its members and their beneficiaries has been paramount to its role as the country’s leading provider of comprehensive healthcare.
We provide medical aid cover to public service employees, their dependants as well as employees of parastatals (that were previously Government departments) who opt to remain members of the Scheme. As Botswana’s largest medical aid scheme, we have continually strived to provide our client base of over 71,000 public officers and their dependants with quality healthcare services, at the most affordable rates.
All Government employees are eligible to join BPOMAS and are entitled to a 50% subsidy from the Government. The Scheme ensures that member interests are protected and access to healthcare is assured. The affairs of the Scheme are managed by a Management Committee, which currently comprises 12 appointees. The Chairman of the Committee is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Administered by the Associated Fund Administrators Botswana (AFA) Pty Ltd,BPOMAS is a member of the International Federation of Health Plans (IFHP), as well as the Board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa (BHF). This membership gives BPOMAS access to expertise and knowledge from within the health insurance industry worldwide.
