The National Mining Society (SONAMI) was founded in 1883 to represent the
professionals of small, medium and large private mining companies, both metallic
and non-metallic. SONAMI works to boost development in the private mining sector,
improve the working environment, promote relevant legislation, and encourage training
and professional development for those working in the sector.
Current members include 50 medium and large mining companies and suppliers,
as well as 38 regional mining associations, integrating more than 3,000 smaller mining
companies. SONAMI is a member of the Inter-American Mining Society (SIM) and the
International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), with representatives on the boards
of both the National Mining Company (Enami) and the National Petroleum Company (Enap).
