Having evolved since 1912 with a real spirit of entrepreneurship, the Group tends today to enter a new phase of development where its international expansion becomes a fundamental priority. CIEL Agro-Industry consolidates the agro-industrial activities such as sugar cane cultivation, sugar manufacture and energy production. It manages, in particular, a plantation of 4,000 hectares in the east of Mauritius, mainly around the Deep River-Beau Champ (DRBC) sugar factory. DRBC also produces electricity for the factory and the national grid through its subsidiary company, Consolidated Energy Ltd. The group has moreover extended the scope of its sugar production activities in Africa by acquiring a major shareholding in TPC Ltd, a sugar estate situated in the region of the Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This estate cultivates some 8,000 Ha and produces 80,000 tonnes of sugar annually. CIEL Agro-Industry is also the promoter of an important residential property development (under the Integrated Resorts Scheme) called the Anahita World Class Sanctuary. Finally, CIEL Agro-Industry has also diversified its activities in the horticultural sector with the recent acquisition of the World Tropicals group.
