For an angler, little can compare to the thrill of the chase to get the adrenalin pumping. The roar of the inboard Caterpillar engines, and the scream of tightly stretched line when a marlin or other game fish has struck the kona, is a pulse-racing experience. Remember, fishing is not so much about how many fish you can catch in the shortest space of time, but more about the experience of fishing itself. Anglers will be adequately equipped with all the usual necessary tackle, gear and equipment when game fishing on any of the boats in our fleet. However, should an angler wish to bring along his own lucky favourite rods and reels, harnesses, lures or whatever other items, this is more than welcome.
We usually troll for game fish using konas and other artificial lures. If it is known that fish are biting on live bait on any particular day, the skipper may then fish for a bonito, hook it up and look for marlin, shark or other billfish. Flexibility to prevailing fishing conditions in the region is very much part of the skippers’ daily routine. Sportfisher itself is situated in the north of the island, in the heart of a very popular and much-frequented village called Grand Baie. Our offices border the seaward side of a shopping mall known as Sunset Boulevard, and we are adjacent to the much-loved Sunset Cafe, where sunsets are experienced with an ice cold jumbo beer!
There are 5 islets in the north, outside of Grand Baie; Serpent Island, Round Island, Flat Island, Gabriel Island and Coin de Mire Island. All are uninhabited, except for sea birds and other wildlife.
