Green Tourism
In the south west of the island, at 400m in altitude, Chamarel is surrounded by the natural park of the Black River gorges, a protected natural heritage site.
In this region, the World Wild Life Society has managed to save a number of species from extinction like the kestrel, the pink pigeon, the green parrot.
1hour from the airport, 1h from the capital Port-Louis, 15 mn from the most beautiful beaches on the island like the Morne and Baie du Cap, 15 mn from the small coastal villages of Black River and la Gaulette where you will find supermarkets and shopping centres.
Lakaz Chamarel is a small boutique hotel,concept guesthouse, charming and refined. Located in full nature and nested in a small valley next to the splendid National park of Black River. Vast property in the heart of the mountains of Chamarel, it is easily accessible.
At first sight, you will be dazzled by the magnificent 10 hectares tropical garden and charmed by the architecture which blends hamoniously into the natural environement and combines authenticity, good taste and refinement with simplicity, comfort and friendliness.
Straight away, you will be overwhelmed by a feeling of well being and calm where time seems to stand still in this place of harmony and “savoir vivre”.
Lakaz Chamarel includes a main building with its living room,a TV room, a dining room, a nice veranda, an open bar and a kitchen.
Two swimming pools, including a wooden thatch roof kiosk and a second open bar with a dining room.
Scattered around the main building, each room has a different decoration representing the diversity of different cultures on the Island:
3 double rooms of 50 m2, the 'Lakaz': (lakaz feraye, dibois, bambou) at a good distance from each other and overlooking a swimming pool.Each one with their private veranda and open air bathrooms included.
4 double rooms the "Kaz superior": ` Kaz Namaste', ` Kaz Tropicale', ` Kaz Zen', ` Kaz Africa' of 60m2, overhanging a second swimming pool and two wooden thatch roof kiosks.
1 Suite Ravenale (~75m2) with a wooden deck, which overhangs a water pond, with its bathroom and an open air shower.
3 Suite (~90m2) each one with a private swimming pool.

The owners are Mauritians. The husband has been the director of two of the most beautiful and well known 5 star hotels on the island for the last 15 years and he has been in the hotel business for 25 years.
The wife, Virginie who is present everyday at Lakaz, has overseen all details of architecture and decoration herself and spends most of her time embellishing the house
