Saint Aubin has been able to create a whole range of tourism and leisure products based on the historic dimension of its sites and products – and their quality – with visitors able to tour its historic buildings production sites, guest houses, restaurants, and sample and purchase its products. Saint Aubin can anticipate becoming a leader in the fields of ecotourism, discovery tourism and quality products. In fact, the future of tourism.
Saint Aubin: Once restored, the superb Saint Aubin mansion was converted into a table d’hôte restaurant, opening its terrace and its rooms to those interested in history and who enjoy genuine local cuisine. All the produce is fresh, coming from the estate itself or the neighbourhood. The Saint Aubin estate’s exceptional setting, incidentally, makes it the perfect place to organise a function. A few yards away, the Auberge, a lovely Creole-style house dating back to 1908, is now a guest house. With its four guest rooms, its swimming pool, bicycles available for guests’ use and horse riding facilities, it provides an open invitation to sample the delights of a Mauritian way of life, whilst encouraging a green and genuine tourism experience.
Bois Chéri:The Bois Chéri tea factory is nowadays open to the public, who can find out about all the aspects of tea production, the “Wise Men’s brew.” Visitors can also sample Bois Chéri teas in a chalet with a panoramic view of the distant south of the island. Since December 2008, Bois Chéri has also welcomed visitors to try some very original fine dining, with the accent on tea. It is an ideal place for functions and particularly popular for teambuilding events in view of the numerous activities it is possible to organise there. For example, Bois Chéri has a small and charming natural lake in the crater of an old volcano, nowadays filled with water, on which it is possible to engage in various activities including canoeing, pedal-boat rides and fishing for lapia.
