Born in 1939 as a sugar company in the north eastern part of Mauritius, the Groupe Mon Loisir started the diversification of its activities as from the 1960’s in the key sectors of the Mauritian economy with a view to operate and expand regionally . Throughout the years, the two financial holdings of the Group, “Compagnie d’Investissement et de Développement Limitée” (CIDL) and “Mon Loisir Compagnie Limitée” (MLCL), built up a portfolio made up of about 300 subsidiaries and associated companies. As at today, the Group employs about 12,000 people in companies engaged in various sectors of the economy and operating in the Indian Ocean. • Property development: IOREC and Compagnie Sucrière de Saint-Antoine. • Financial Services: AfrAsia Bank in Mauritius and South Africa, Abax Corporate Services, AXYS Group, City Brokers, GML Management Ltée and GML Trésorerie Ltée.
GML’s dynamism and responsiveness have played a key role in the group’s regional development. Today GML ranks as one of the major private sector groups of the Indian Ocean. Corporate Social Responsibility and standards of sustainability are at the heart of the groups’ actions. The creation of the Fondation Joseph Lagesse is in line with GML’s policy to develop a social program to help the most vulnerable people, through Education, Health care and Poverty alleviation. In addition, today, GML has a Group Sustainability Policy and is currently developing an Environment Program, GML “Think Green”. Groupe Mon Loisir is proud to announce that after a rebranding exercise, the Groupe Mon Loisir will be known only by its acronym: “GML” and the two financial holdings of the Group, namely,”Compagnie d’Investissement et de Développement Limitée” (CIDL) and “Mon Loisir Compagnie Limitée” (MLCL) have been renamed, “GML Investissement Ltée” et “GML Inéo Ltée” respectively.
