Established respectively in 1854 and 1871, Mauritius Fire Insurance Company Limited and Colonial Fire Insurance Company Limited are the founding members of the Swan Group. On the 31st March 1955, both companies merged to operate under the name of Swan Insurance Company Limited. The new company continued to promote general insurance in Mauritius by introducing insurance covers for individual and corporate clients. The Anglo-Mauritius Assurance Society Limited, founded in 1951, is one of the largest financial services providers in Mauritius through its pension administration, actuarial services, risk services, fund management and life assurance. In 1972, Swan Insurance acquired the majority shares of the Anglo-Mauritius, as a result of which the Swan Group became a leading player in the economic and financial landscape of the country. On the 19th December, 1990, Swan was the first insurance company to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. In 2004, a subsidiary of the Anglo-Mauritius, Anglo-Mauritius Financial Services Ltd (AMFS), was set up to provide investment management services. Since then, AMFS has also secured the local representation of three internationally renowned fund management houses, namely, Black Rock Investment Managers, Schroders Investment Management and Global Asset Management and has increased its clients’ portfolio significantly. In the same year, the Anglo- Mauritius took over Pension Consultants and Administrators Ltd, the first company to obtain a license of “pension administrator” from the Financial Services Commission.
