Lion of Africa Fund Managers is a registered Financial Services Provider, No 16135. It was founded in 2002 by Fred Robertson.

The business model is that of “manager of managers”. We operate on the basis of long-term partnerships. We provide oversight and an increase to the overall knowledge base of our managers without intruding on their respective investment processes that we have endorsed.

The managers are chosen on the basis of alignment of philosophy, track record, experience and expertise in their field. For the alpha-add that we are seeking, we favour the fact that they are independent thinkers.

Our role for our clients is to provide increased governance, risk control and additional reporting without any additional fee.

Insurance

Lion of Africa Insurance Company, formed in August 1999, is an established, growing insurance brand on the South African insurance landscape. It represents a new breed of insurer, founded on the premise of transformation and the provision of insurance solutions for all South Africans.

Life Assurance

Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company was originally formed by African Peoples Organisation (APO) in 1902. APO was formed as a political orginisation with its history rooted in the community. In 1923, the orginisation launched the Burial Society and in 1942, the African Peoples Organisation was registered as a limited liability uneral assurer in terms of the companies act.

In 2002, Commlife Holdings acquired the APO Burial Society and renamed it Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company. In December 2005, the Financial Services Board granted Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company a full Life Assurance Licence. In 2006, Lion of Africa Life Assurance Company became a full member of the Life Offices Association (LOA).
